A perfect first look at this part of the park. Celia took her time over both the history and the geography, so by the time we walked into the gorge we understood what we were standing in.

Kata Tjuta tour · three hours, fifteen travellers
A fantastic afternoon walking through Walpa Gorge. We had Pete again, having been out to Uluru with him the day before, and he is as knowledgeable as he is careful about the place. Worth doing as a small group.

Kata Tjuta tour · three hours, fifteen travellers
Quick and easy — about three kilometres of walking in total. The guide looked after the people who found it harder. The one thing I would add is a stop with a proper view back to the whole formation.

Kata Tjuta tour · three hours, fifteen travellers
We came away understanding how the formation was made and what it means to the Aboriginal communities nearby. There is a short hike included and Andrea was attentive to everyone on the trip.

Kata Tjuta tour · three hours, fifteen travellers
Expensive for a day out. The live guide was very good though, and I appreciated the kindness and the professionalism from everyone involved.

Kata Tjuta tour · three hours, fifteen travellers
We were so glad to see the sunrise and then get out to the domes. Without the tour we would simply have missed the second half of it.

Kata Tjuta sunrise tour · Talinguru Nyakunytjaku and Walpa Gorge
A good sunrise from the lookout and then one of the valleys at Kata Tjuta. The driver was kind and punctual and I learned more about the desert wildlife from him than I would at a zoo. Half an hour more at each stop would have made it.

Kata Tjuta sunrise tour · Talinguru Nyakunytjaku and Walpa Gorge
Seeing it from the air is something else. We were slightly unlucky with cloud so the sunset was not the best, but we got a double rainbow instead and the whole thing was run very efficiently.

Kata Tjuta helicopter tour · thirty-six minutes at sunset
One of the most memorable things I have done. Thirty-six minutes goes quickly and the run down the western face is the part you remember.

Kata Tjuta helicopter tour · thirty-six minutes at sunset
A short trip but worth it to see both formations from that angle. They picked us up on time and were clear about what to expect before we boarded.
Michelle R. · Couple · June 2026
Kata Tjuta helicopter tour · twenty-five minutes over both
A whole other level of looking at these formations. Make sure you do both of them rather than one.

Kata Tjuta helicopter tour · twenty-five minutes over both
I was the smallest in the group and ended up in the middle of the back row, with bigger passengers either side of me taking the windows. My view was limited and I could not get a clear photograph, and I paid what everyone else paid. Ask about the seating.

Kata Tjuta helicopter tour · twenty-five minutes over both
My first time in a helicopter and I loved every minute of it. Would recommend it to anyone.

Uluru scenic flight · fifteen minutes by helicopter
Best thing we did — still buzzing. The team were brilliant and it is a perfect way to see the whole shape of it from above.

Uluru scenic flight · fifteen minutes by helicopter
We enjoyed the whole morning. Rynn and Andrew were excellent hosts, and watching the sun come up over the rock from the dune with a hot drink is a stop-you-in-your-tracks moment.

Uluru Field of Light tour · sunrise from the dune top
The lights were the thing. Cloud came over for the sunrise itself, which is worth knowing when you pick your morning — the installation delivers whatever the sky does, and the sunrise is the part that depends on it.
Barbara · Couple · August 2026
Uluru Field of Light tour · sunrise from the dune top
Excellent, and I would definitely recommend it. I have never seen the Milky Way like that in my life.

Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park tour · telescopes after dark
A good evening with great guides. It was baltic, so dress for it, and it is not cheap for four — but the photograph is included and it is a beautiful part of the day to be out.

Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park tour · telescopes after dark
Three days out of Alice Springs with two nights of glamping in different spots. Walks at several points around the park, a sunset supper outdoors, sunrise from another lookout, and the Kings Canyon hike on the last day. Mikki was a genuinely professional guide.
Janusz P. · Couple · February 2026
3 day Kata Tjuta tour · return from Alice Springs
It felt like a road trip with friends. Jenn and Josie knew the plants and the animals as well as the sights. Be aware there is a real level of fitness assumed, and the phone signal comes and goes.

3 day Kata Tjuta tour · return from Alice Springs
Libbie was a fantastic guide and the whole thing was immersive. The camping is adequate and fun, the walking is very manageable, and the drives between sites are long — but every site is worth the trip out.

3 day Kata Tjuta tour · camping out of Ayers Rock Airport
It was great to see all three landmarks. I wish I had known we needed fly nets for our hats — that was not in the information about how to prepare, and in March it matters.

3 day Kata Tjuta tour · camping out of Ayers Rock Airport
Eco tents that are comfortable and cosy, hot showers at every camp and clean bathrooms. The meals are simple but there is plenty, and vegan, vegetarian, gluten free and dairy free were all catered for.
Ros P. · Couple · July 2026
4 day Kata Tjuta tour · camping out of Yulara
Not what I expected. The bus was worn and far too small for a group of over twenty-two people, and the air conditioning did not cope at forty degrees with the windows open. It was sold to me as a small group.

What comes up again and again
Four things recur. The first is the guide, by name: Celia, Pete, Andrea, Libbie, Betty, Jem and Donk all appear in more than one review, and in the positive ones the guide is usually the reason the day worked. The second is the geology — reviewers keep saying they arrived expecting rocks and left understanding how the formation was made, which is the specific thing a guide adds here.
The third is the walking, which reviewers consistently describe as more manageable than they expected: three kilometres on the afternoon tour, and one traveller writing that it is fairly easy for anyone of average fitness. The fourth is scale, and the same sentence turns up again and again — that photographs do not prepare you for standing between two of the domes.
Where the criticism lands
It clusters in three places. On the scenic flights, a middle back seat is not the same product as a window seat and one reviewer says so plainly after paying the same fare. On the multi-day camping trips, a group of twenty-two on a warm day drew a one-star review about the size of the bus and the air conditioning. And on the day trips, more than one traveller wanted thirty minutes longer at each stop.
The practical read: ask about seating when you book a flight, check the departure cap on a camping trip before you commit, and if time at the domes is what you want, take the three-hour afternoon tour that spends all of it there. The half-day departures and multi-day trips set out the hours involved before you commit to them.
